Yes it is nice to be in first, but don't act like you are giants of baseball when you are only in front by a slim margin. Not to mention the easy schedule you have had too. Anyone else have comments?

The question is: Do the Cubs fans have legit bragging rights about having the best record in baseball when it is due to an easy schedule and consistantly by a slim marin of one game?|||I assume you're not really serious with this question... why would the best team in baseball not have bragging rights for being the best team in baseball? Okay, it's a 1-game lead... so? It's a lead, isn't it? Who cares what the other teams are doing, they are behind us, and at this point, that DOES make us "giants of baseball."

As for the "easy schedule," that's a bunch of s颅hi颅t, quite honestly. The goal of every team in MLB is to beat the teams on their schedule, right? Right. And that's what we're doing. What, are we supposed to request extra games or something?

In the end, it doesn't really matter at this point. We're in first, so we get the bragging rights for now. What does that matter to you, or to fans of any other team? I understand jealousy is eating away at you right now, and that hurts. But you'll just have to work on acceptance of that. Work on cheering FOR your team, instead of AGAINST ours.|||Honey, I'm from the south, my husbands from the Chicago and a big Cubbies fan....anything that makes him happy instead of b#@%&ing, it's ALL good.|||Yes, braying is so annoying!|||Thats every team in every city................Do you mean to tell me that if the Red Sox were a game up on the Yankees there wouldn't be braying going on in Beantown?|||They haven't had much to brag about for many years now, I say, let them have their day in the sun. Don't be a killjoy.|||They'll be saying, "wait till next year" before you know it.|||that's why they are called 'fans'... they are gonna be happy for their team, whether it's by one game or not... this is the 100th anniversary since they won the world series... they have every right to be excited. GO CUBBIES!|||They don't have anything else to be proud of so I'm willing to concede it to them.

Goodness knows that the embarrassment of playing in the same division with Milwaukee and Pittsburgh should be enough to keep them from acting too proud, but it's whatever they want to do.|||It doesn't matter how you try to write it off, be it an easy schedule or only having the best record by a game or two... it's still the best record in baseball and at the end of the regular season that's all that's going to matter...|||Once again, there is no such thing as an easy schedule. Any team at any minute could get hot and become unbeatable. Look at the Rays, everyone thought they would suck again this year. All the teams that play them were probably looking foward to an easy win, but now the Rays are good.

As for bragging rights, we do deserve to have them. We are the best in baseball no matter how close the other teams are. We're 1.5 games up on the best record in the MLB and 2.5 games up in the NL.

Probably another Cardinal or Brewers fan complaining on how good the Cubs have been this year.|||Don't worry, the All Star Game is coming up. Almost time for their annual collapse.|||Yes, they have every right to be pumped thier team is on top. Whether you're ahead by one game or are way out in front of the pack, you'll be excited if your team is on top.

Also, isn't this the first time they've been the best in baseball this late into the season since 1908 when they won it all? I mean, there is still alot of season left. But even I am excited for the Cubs' chances this year and am not even a Cubs fan.|||well, fans will brag about there team no matter what, and if the team is doing it then they are trying to keep morale up or to rally teammates and fans.

Im from the Tampa area, and i think Rays will catch them, just wait and see.|||Let them cheer - God knows they have had little to cheer for in the last few decades.

And the horrible karma they have acquired has just rose again with Soriano's injury.|||haha..THANK YOU.
and now that Fonzy's out for 6 weeks, my White Sox should have a better chance at beating them when it comes time for the Crosstown Classic.

I don't think they have bragging rights.I mean us White Sox fans can brag about how were in first place even though we don't have the best record in baseball, but we are up by 5.5 games and not 2.5.|||I hate it. Maybe that's because I'm a Cardinal fan and have die-hard passion about my team, but I can't stand braggers. ESPECIALLY the Cubs. It's always nice when I can tell them that their team hasn't won a Series in 99 years.

Besides, for those Cub fans who think this is their year: IT'S A LONG TIME TIL OCTOBER!!!!|||you know what Iam so tired how everybody keeps saying thay have a easy schedule when in baseball their really isnt a easy schedule for any team why can't you just admit they are playing very good baseball right now it don't matter how the schedule's are they were beating teams that made the playoff last year and they had 1 of the best months of baseball last year in august or did yall forget that. and this year they are starting off where they left off last year . and they are in a very tuff division and they are in first place. so just get over yourself you bunch of jealous pea ons.|||Where oh where is GCG on this one? I'll star it so I can come back and see his answer.
My comment is let them bray...they have had so little pleasure lately.

Way to tell it, GCG. I had faith you'd ring in on this one!|||Of course we Cubs fans have legitimate rights to say we have the best record in baseball because we do. It's called a fact. Do the Cardinals fans have a right to call their 2006 team the World series Champs, or do they lose that right because they didn't have the best record in baseball ? (83-78 normally doesn't even get you in the playoffs)
Whether they are best by one game or ten, you can't argue that the record is the best, Does the schedule maybe have something to do with it? Of course it does, but the Cubs can only play the teams that they are told to play. This is not college football, where a coach of a major team can schedule a patsy.
So, do we have the right to say the Cubs have the best record in baseball. Definitely. Does it mean anything only about a third of the way through the season.? Absolutely not. And, as the 06 Cardinals proved, it won't mean anything in the postseason other then determining home field. But, it still is the truth at this moment. Talking about it is no different then saying that Barry Bonds hit 73 homers in a season. You may not like it, you may think it wasn't legitimate, but it's still a fact.|||BEING A CUB FAN SINCE 1950 IT HAS BEEN A LONG RIDE...IT IS NICE FOR POSITIVE THINGS ONCE IN A WHILE. LOSING ONE PLAYER FOR 6 WEEKS WILL NOT CHANGE ANYTHING,,,,DEPTH IS WONDERFUL.|||I find it amusing whenever I see ANY people dramatically tying their emotional life to any sports.

They get exhilarated when "their" team wins, and they get dejected when "their" team loses. I just don't understand how they can consider it "their" team, unless they either own it or work for it -- just living in the same city as the team does NOT qualify as some sort of brag-worthy achievement.

I enjoy watching baseball and a few other sports, but simply for the pleasure of watching the game itself. My emotions and/or blood pressure are never affected.
