and also, the other sequels, Rebel Angels and the sweet far thing???
would u recommend her books? what is it really about?|||I really like them.
I'm not big on fantasy, so those weren't my very favorite parts. I really loved the historical part of it. Libba Bray's writing style really intrigued me, and I actually enjoyed quite a few of the fantasy aspects because of the action.
Overall, the entire series is a good read. **Anyone who's read the books and understands my username will know this is the only thing I could ever say about them.|||The Gemma Doyle Trilogy is absolutely a fantastic read if you like fantasy and/or historical fiction. All three books are extremely well written and contain well developed characters, beautiful imagery, historical accuracy, great imagination, and intriguing plots. And even some good romance, if you stick with it :)
The books follows 16 year old Gemma Doyle, living between the Victorian and Edwardian Eras. She discovers through a series of visions that she has the power to enter another realm and access the power there. But with her power comes great responsibility and ultimately, many trials, including having to deal with the Rakshana, an organization of men trying to seize hold of the magic, and keeping her secret safe, all the while trying to solve the mystery of a boarding school tragedy that took place several decades ago at Spence, the very school that Gemma is attending.
Rebel Angels and The Sweet Far Thing are equally great, if not better. They're much longer than A Great and Terrible Beauty, and are absolutely worth it.
It's a truly excellent series. If you like the Harry Potter series and The Chronicles of Narnia, I highly reccommend them. (and they're a cheap buy, too! $17 for the hardcover!!)|||I wouldn't recommend it to a non-fantasy reader. I really enjoyed the realistic parts of the book, however I'm not a huge fantasy fan when it came to the unrealistic parts.
So I guess if you like fantasy, read it - you'll enjoy it.
But if you like realistic stories that happened before our time I suggest something like "The Other Boleyn Girl"|||I would definitely recommend these books to anyone, but mainly to teenage fantasy readers. I have read them and thought they were amazing, i bawled my eyes out in the the third book.|||Very good!|||Gehhh... a bit girly and shallowtastic for me, though I tried.
